The Five-Star Doctor Award represents the WONCA recognition of excellence in health care among its finest members. It is awarded annually by each region based on how well candidates fulfill the five crucial roles of a family doctor: care provider, decision maker, communicator, community leader, and manager. Regional winners are forwarded for consideration by the WONCA Nominating and Awards Committee for the Global Five-Star Doctor Award.
 
Prof. Hwang Shinn-Jang was elected by the WONCA Asia Pacific Regional Executive Meeting and Council Meeting as the recipient of the 2023 WONCA APR Five-Star Doctor Award. Furthermore, he accepted the award at the 2024 Singapore's WONCA APR Awards ceremony.
