Prof. Shinn-Jang Hwang, President of TAFM, under the invitation of John Tung Foundation, attended the press conference for the “Stop Smoking Superman” project which the TAFM participated in, on 8th of August 2018 at 2pm. Prof Hwang commented: “Since the government started the second-generation smoking cessation project, there has been an increase in the number of people who visit the smoking cessation clinic. However, even though we have a large number of people who comes in the hospital every day, whether they are inpatients, family members of patients, or visitors, there are still quite a small number of people who utilize this smoking cessations project. I hope that with this very lovable "Stop Smoking Superman" Mark, will make this program more feasible to smokers and hopefully they will act immediately and make an appointment to Smoking Cessation Clinic right away. Taiwan is the first country in the world to have smoking cessation medications covered by the National Health Insurances. The government has subsidized most of the drug costs. People can get professional and efficient smoking cessation assistance at a very low cost. According to statistics, the success rate of smoking cessation can be as high as 35 percent when it is provided in a medical center. There is never a bad time to start smoking cessation for the smokers, and TAFM have around 6000 members who can help and aid the patients to stop smoking.”
