Celebrations of 2019 World Family Doctor Day
In the afternoon of May 19, TAFM joined force with Old Five Old Foundation at the grand hall of the Taipei Main Station to celebrate the 2019 World Family Doctor Day with great rejoice. In addition to our members and the general public, distinguished guests including Shier-Chieg Huang, Director of the Taipei City Department of Health, Shu-Lin Tsai, Deputy General Director of the Health Insurance Administration, and Shu-Li Chia, Deputy General Director of the Health Promotion Administration, appeared at the celebration venue to honor TAFM with their speeches, together with the video greetings and blessing from WONCA (the World Organization of Family Doctors) President Dr. Donald Li, WONCA Asia Pacific Regional President Dr. Meng-Chih Lee, and TAFM Adviser and ROC congressman Dr. Tai-Yuan Chiu.
A highlight of this year’s celebration went to the award ceremony for Outstanding Teaching Contribution of General Practitioners and Outstanding General Practice and Service. The awards were presented to exemplary family doctors in profound gratitude and admiration for their unwavering dedication to safeguarding public health and passing on their invaluable experiences to the next-generation physicians.
In the “Activity Zone” of the venue, citizens took active parts filling up the experiential booths designed and hosted by the Old Five Old Foundation to play a series of prize-for-winner, breaking-through-barricade games testing their literacy on adult health, sex and sexuality, tobacco cessation, and other important health issues. Through fun and festivity, they were reminded to develop correct health knowledge and consult family or community doctors when not feeling well so as to maintain their physical and mental health.
The venue further features “Witnessing the Rise of Family Medicine in Taiwan: TAFM 1986~2019,” a retrospective photo exhibition bearing witness not only to our history but also to our promise to celebrate one after another World Family Doctor Day with our pursuit of ongoing development.
